Question 1

Who is Alex Day and what is his professional background?

Accepted Answer

I am a fully independent candidate running for Deputy Mayor and Councillor in the 2026 Burnie City Council elections. I have a 20-year career in technology, including 14 years managing IT infrastructure and 6 years in cybersecurity and government auditing, managing capital expenditure budgets up to $1.8 million.

Question 2

What is Alex Day's 'Local First' procurement policy?

Accepted Answer

I strongly believe the Burnie City Council must prioritise buying from Burnie businesses first and foremost for everything, even if it costs slightly more or takes a little longer. If a local business cannot fulfil the need, we must look to Tasmanian suppliers before spending money on the mainland.

Question 3

What is Alex Day's approach to Burnie's Digital Transformation Strategy?

Accepted Answer

The Burnie City Council is currently partway through a multi-million-dollar Digital Transformation Strategy. I advocate for '(Super Boring) Digital Governance.' I want to bring my 20 years of technology and cyber skills to Council to help find solutions that actually suit our needs, fit with State policies, and guarantee they are secure.

Question 4

How will Alex Day address Council infighting and communication?

Accepted Answer

My personal Open Door policy is simple: use the contact form on my website, and I will get back to you and help you get important items on the official Council agenda. To improve broader transparency, I will strongly advocate for the Council to host monthly gazebos on the foreshore and booths at local markets so residents can speak directly to key Council personnel.

Question 5

Is Alex Day affiliated with any political party?

Accepted Answer

No. I am a fully independent candidate. I strongly believe that local councils should consist of local people focused on local issues, reserving party politics and affiliations exclusively for the state and federal government levels.
